A Gas Monitor Chamber Calibration Program for the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer Precision Chambers
نویسندگان
چکیده
The ATLAS Muon Spectrometer is designed to measure the momentum of muons with a resolution of dp/p = 3% and 10 % at beam energies of 100 GeV and 1 TeV respectively. To do this, the spectrometer employs 355,000 Monitored Drift Tubes (MDTs) in 1200 Chambers. Calibration (RT) functions convert drift time measurements into tube-centered impact parameters for track segment reconstruction. RT functions depend on MDT environmental parameters and so must be appropriately calibrated for local chamber conditions. We report on the creation and application of a gas monitor system based calibration program for muon track reconstruction in the LHC startup phase.

Calibration of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer Precision Chambers for Initial LHC Beam Collisions
ATLAS is a general purpose experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN which began operation in September, 2009. ATLAS has a large muon spectrometer which is designed to measure muon momentum with a resolution ranging from 3% at 100 GeV/c to 10% at 1 TeV for a pseudorapidity range of 0-2.7. In this paper, we describe the derivation and validation of calibration constants for the Monit...

Monitored Drift Tube (MDT) chambers will constitute the large majority of precision detectors in the Muon Spectrometer of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. For commissioning and calibration of MDT chambers, a Cosmic Ray Measurement Facility is in operation at Munich University. The objectives of this facility are to test the chambers and on-chamber electronics, to map t...

In the endcap region of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer (η > 1) precision tracking and Level-1 triggering are performed by different types of chambers. Monitored Drift Tube chambers (MDT) and Cathode Strip Chambers (CSC) are used for precision tracking, while Thin Gap Chambers (TGC) form the Level-1 muon trigger, selecting muons with high transverse momentum (pT ). When by 2018 the LHC peak luminos...

The main results of the quality assurance tests performed on the Resistive Plate Chamber used by the ATLAS experiment at LHC as muon trigger chambers are reported and discussed. These are dark current, gas volume tomography, gas tightness, efficiency, and noise rate.
متن کاملATLAS monitored drift tube chambers for super - LHC
After the high-luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, the ATLAS muon spectrometer is expected to work at 10 times increased background rates of gammas and neutrons. This is challenging as the momentum resolution of the spectrometer is expected to be 10 %. This requires a single tube resolution of the muon drift tubes of 80 μm. At background rates around 1000 Hz/cm space ...
